Black History Month 2027: how to find events near you

Black History Month 2027 runs February 1 to 28, and ASALH's 2027 theme is “From Black Print Culture to Digital Blackness.” To find events near you, check your city, library and university calendars in January, then ask in your city room. Plan early, because popular events fill up.

Best for

People who want to attend Black History Month events and meet others in their city.

Not for

Readers who need an official national event list. ASALH sets the theme but does not list local events here.

The 2027 theme

ASALH, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, sets the national theme each year. For 2027 it announced “From Black Print Culture to Digital Blackness.” It sells a 2027 calendar with that title in its store.

Dates to know

February 1, 2027 is a Monday, so the month runs Monday, February 1 through Sunday, February 28. Events often start the weekend before, so check from late January.

Where to look

Search your city and county calendars, public library events, university and HBCU pages, museums, churches and local Black chambers of commerce. Many publish their February schedules in January.

Ask your city

In BLK Chat you can open your city room and ask what is happening this weekend. People often know about smaller events that never reach a calendar.

Plan to go with someone

Invite one person from the room to an event. Meeting at a public event is an easy first step. See our safety page for tips on meeting in person.

How it works

  1. Install BLK Chat on iOS or Android.
  2. Pick an available city, or allow optional location for a nearby one.
  3. Join a room and start talking with people in your city.
